James Boldin is currently instructor of horn at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and is a DMA candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received the MM degree from the UW-Madison in May of 2004. He has performed with the UW Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra, the Asheville Symphony Orchestra (NC), and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra (IL). In addition, he has participated in summer music festivals in Brevard, NC, Las Vegas, NV, and Round Top, TX. His primary instructors include Karen Robertson and Douglas Hill. James and his wife Kristen reside in Madison, WI.
Bill Burdick received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in 1975. He studied tuba under John Russo and Jay Hildebrandt. Besides being one of the founding members of Quinthorne, Bill is currently an active member of the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra, the 1st Brigade Band, the Blessed Brass and the Waunakee Community Band. He has formerly been a member of The Madison Brass, the Rock River Brass Quintet, and the Rock Prairie Concert Band.
Kevin Erickson is a University of Wisconsin - Madison graduate. He has performed with Quantum Brass in Texas on a competitive grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America. A committed educator, Kevin is a longtime faculty member of Summer Music Clinic at the University of Wisconsin Madison, and is currently Director of Bands at Kettle Moraine High School in Wales, Wisconsin. Kevin has played regularly with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. His other orchestral and chamber music appearances include The Madison Symphony, The Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra, The Madison Brass, and the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing trumpet with Quinthorne, Kevin continues to be an active freelance musician in southeastern Wisconsin.
David Magoon, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, has performed in a wide variety of ensembles, ranging from symphony orchestras to Rhythm and Blues bands to early music groups. A few of the highlights of his career include performing as a soloist on live national television and being appointed as guest professor of trumpet at a summer music festival in Brazil. David has performed extensively with professional and community orchestras in the Boston, Washington DC, and southeastern Wisconsin areas including the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, the Festival City Symphony Orchestra, the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra, the Racine Symphony Orchestra, the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, and Gabriel's Horns. He has also performed with The Madison Brass, as soloist with the Holton-Elkhorn band for a number of years, and recorded with the 1st Brigade Band on original Civil War period instruments. His most recent non-classical musical activities have included performances and recordings as lead trumpet with The Indispensable HipTones (a rhythm and blues band), with The Mister Lucky Swing Syndicate (a jump swing band). He has also performed in the local Milwaukee and Green Bay orchestras for YES and Mannheim Steamroller. While his principal instrument is trumpet, David is also an accomplished recorder and cornetto player. His early music experience includes studies with Daniel Pinkham and performances with professional groups in the Boston, Washington DC, and southeastern Wisconsin areas.
Brian Whitty, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, is an active freelance trombonist and pianist. Comfortable in classical as well as commercial idioms, he currently performs with the Beloit/Janesville Symphony Orchestra, the Madison Jazz Orchestra, and is a founding member of Quinthorne Brass Quintet. He has performed with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra, The Madison Brass, the Madison Wind Ensemble, and the MATC Jazz and Concert Bands. Brian also is the leader of the Brian Whitty Group and co-leads the jump blues band, Swingin’ the Blues with Tony Kannen. Brian also is an active teacher, chamber music coach, and clinician. Prior to his move to Madison, Brian was the Executive Director of the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he also served as music arranger and program coordinator.
